Early Christmas Present… Bella Box Unboxing and Review!

fotorcreated

Hello! Hello! Hello!

The other day, I opened the door and to my delight, a box full of goodies arrived on my step: The Bella Box. I couldn’t be any more excited. My first ever subscription box and I couldn’t be any more satisfied with what I received. For those who have never heard of Bella Box subscription service, it is an Australian monthly box subscription service that delivers five or more beauty and lifestyle products and samples to your doorstep. You can then trial and use the products and if you find a product you really like you can buy the product from their website here.  Bella Boxes are normally $18 per box but I have a special link that can let you guys receive your first Bella box for $10. Check it out here!

When you first open the box this is what it looks like. This month’s box was brown rather than its usual blue but that is due to the size of the products. I love how unique the packaging is. The Bella Box logo is placed all around the cardboard box and the black tissue paper is a simple yet nice touch to the design of the package. I do wish I could see the blue box packaging. In addition, I was given a personalized message in the box which was such a nice personal touch. I also received card with a list and description of the products featured in the box. The card included the theme of this month’s box which was “Summer Glow”, the price of the products and where to buy the products.

the products:

Overall, I’m very happy with the products that Bella Box provided. They were all good quality and reputable products that were easy to use. The price is definitely worth it as you are given not only samples but also actual full sized products. There were some emerging brand products in the box, such as gilded cage as well as some famous products, such as Revlon. All the products in this month’s box are things that I love and would definitely use.

Left: Revlon Prodessional Uniq One Hair Treatment Right: Gilded Cage Charisma LIpgloss
Left: Revlon Professional Uniq One Hair Treatment Right: Gilded Cage Charisma Lipgloss
Left: Sunsense Daily Face SPF 50+ Invisible Tint Right: Cetaphil Dermacontrol Oil-Control Foam Wash

Left: Pure Paw Paw Ointment Right: Palmer's Coconut Oil Formul aBody Lotion and Avon Life Her EDP Spray
Left: Pure Paw Paw Ointment Right: Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Body Lotion and Avon Life Her EDP Spray

These were products that were in my box. A 7-day fitness guide was also in my box! My favorite products are the Gilded Cage Charisma Lipgloss, the Revlon Professional Hair Treatment and the Pure Paw Paw Ointment, I can definitely see myself using these products in the future. Overall, I am impressed by the number of products they gave me. With seventeen dollars, I could never see myself buying so many products and so it definitely is worth the price. I actually really love this box and I highly recommend it for anyone who is a fan of beauty products or is looking for a good Christmas present because this box is definitely worth the hype and price. Hopefully, I will get another one of these boxes in the future.

“Flaws + Signed Books” Teaser Tuesdays: April 12th

jij'

When people say that time goes by quickly, I would definitely agree with them. I can’t believe it’s already April! APRIL! Times flies! I am back with another Teaser Tuesdays and it will be the first one this month. (Confession: I didn’t do one last week! Sorry! 🙂 ) I am so excited to share with you the book I am currently reading.

currently reading: flawed by cecelia ahern

Processed with VSCOcam with a5 preset

I recently got this sent to me by Harper Collins and I was extremely elated to find out that it was signed by the author. (I honestly feel so special, I never have signed books!) If you’re thinking, “Cecelia Ahern sounds awfully familliar,” it’s because she wrote Love, Rosie! Flawed is her first young-adult novel and I am loving it so much!

She really did a good job with the whole young adult dystopian thing. Flawed is set a dystopian world, in which every immoral act is criticised and results in being branded as Flawed. Those who are Flawed are looked down upon in this society. Celestine has lived her whole life as the perfect model: she has fallen in love, gets straight As, never commited anything wrong and has a perfect family. However, one day her life goes crashing after second-guessing the government’s system and now she must faced the world as she is about to be branded, Flawed.

I love it so far and I can’t wait to put up the review! Also, I just wanted to add that my blog will be a bit jam packed this week! I have a lifestyle post coming up, which I hope you guys might enjoy and I also have a book review and interview for When We Collided up tomorrow!

“When you hear something, it can never be unheard. I know deep down, that this evening I have learned something that can never be unlearned,”
– Cecelia Ahern, Flawed

More Contemporaries!! Teaser Tuesdays! March 15th

jij'

Hello, guys!

Alicia’s back at it again with those contemporaries (Ahaha, you see what I did there❤)! It’s Teaser Tuesday again! If you didn’t know, every week I post a feature called Teaser Tuesdays which is where I tell you my current read and share with you a short teaser from the novel! I’m reading another contemporary and this time it is, This Is Where The World Ends by Amy Zhang.

currently reading:
this is where the world ends by amy zhang

DSC_0005

I actually haven’t read an Amy Zhang before and I’m super excited to read this novel. This contemporary is not your typical cutesy romance kind of novel, it’s more of a coming of age novel about best friends! I don’t know much about this novel yet because I just started after reading Jojo Moyes’ Me Before You (*Ques the crying*)! I love the way this novel is written. There are many little excerpts from the main character’s journals and the way this novel is set out is very different to normal books. Each chapter has a date and is titled either Before or After! I’m so excited to get right into the novel. This Is Where The World Ends follows the story of two best friends: Janie and Micah. They have been best friends since they were young and they have always had a perfect friendship. One day Janie vanishes and Micah doesn’t remember why. I’m getting lots of Colleen Hoover’s Never, Never vibes! Here is a little teaser:

“Everything ends. This is obvious. This is the easy part. This is what I believe in: the inevitable, the catastrophe, the apocalypse,”
– Amy Zhang, This Is Where the World Ends

what are you guys currently reading this week? I would love to know in the comments below!

A Happily Ever After or A Heartbreaking Miserably Never After? #bookishtalks

FotorCreated

Hello, guys!

Something that’s been on my mind lately when it comes to books is the ending. Whenever I start a new novel the first thought that pops into my head is: “How will this book end?” For me, what makes or breaks a book is the ending. If ends horribly, I’ll end up not enjoying it but if it ends really well, I’ll end up loving it so much. However, recently I’ve noticed that so many people prefer a happy ending and many others prefer that heart-wrenching, “feels” provoking ending. Each book ends so differently and at times, I’ll prefer an ending over another but I never can predict which one I prefer better. Each ending has their own satisfaction and happiness that I can never guess whether I prefer a happy one or an eventful one. *Also, just to let you know there may be a few subtle spoilers but don’t worry their only spoilers to really popular books, which most of you have probably read!

so what do you like: a happily ever after or a miserably never after?

A happily ever after for me is one where not many of the main protagonists die and every character has resolved all the main issues. This ending usually belongs under the contemporary section.
DSC_0197Most contemporaries end with your fairytale ending, both the main characters fall in love with each other, after multiple events and they both live happily ever after. There is just something so satisfying when you close one of these contemporaries and you get this fluttery feeling in your chest that makes you want to explode in cuteness. One of the main reasons why I love happy endings is because of the cuteness it drowns you in and the happiness that you get surrounded in. You don’t have to worry about main characters dying (*cough* Allegiant *cough*) or you don’t have to worry about drowning in tears and feels. All in all, a happily ever after usually makes me super happy, despite it’s cheesiness and at times can make me feel bad because I’ll never have a perfect life or love story as those in contemporary novels! (Anna and St Clair. are #goals!! I will never find someone like St Clair.) However, sometimes a happy ending can mean one thing: cliché. One of my reading pet peeves is a really cliché ending. I’ve read enough happy endings to the point where if it’s pretty much your typical contemporary with an insta-love, a stereotypical main character and a super cheesy ending, I’ll end up having mixed feelings about the novel. Sometimes, I don’t really know what I can label as cheesy as most contemporary novels are cheesy but there are a few endings where I’ll be unphased because the ending was just too typical. I like happy endings that stick with me forever and happy endings that make me feel that bubble of happiness and excitement.

On the other hand, miserable and heart-wrenching endings are something that makes me really excited. It may sound like an oxymoron but I love books that break my heart into shattered pieces of glass, books that make me cry rivers of tears and books that make get hit right in the feels!

Yep! This is pretty much me^^^

I saw this post recently on Paper Fury about why we enjoy painful endings and after reading her post and reflecting on it: I literally had this revelation! What she said was so true. One of the things she mentioned was the fact that everyone loves feeling all the feels, whether you are the least likely to read tragic endings or the most likely. Feeling all the feels and all the heart-wrenching emotions is something we all enjoy. For me, it feels like magic. How can a book filled with only the 26 letters of the alphabet make you feel so much? Every book that has hit me square in the chest is like magic and it’s one of the many reasons why I love reading. The fact that the novel is so thought provoking yet so enjoyable just makes me want to fangirl all day. Let’s take The Infernal Devices for example, it was a rollercoaster of feels, excitement, fangirling and sadness, yet, it still stands as my favorite series of all time. Any novel that is a rollercoaster of emotions just gets me so excited and because it has impacted me so much it will always stay with me. Not only that but like Paper Fury has mentioned it give you the excuse to talk and chat with all these other people about the pain the book or series has given you.

However, sad endings and miserable endings are not always the best and sometimes, you finish a book and you just go: “What kind of ending was that?” Every once in a while, I’ll read this heart-breaking novel and it’s just so obvious that the author put in a tragic ending for the sake of a thought-provoking novel.
You can get sick of sad endings too, many novels usually end in a somewhat sad ending and you just get sick and tired of it. Killing off main characters is one of my pet peeves, to all authors: DO NOT kill off the main characters if it is unnecessary. Allegiant for example, killed off the main character for no reason what so ever and for me, it didn’t feel like she was trying to be selfless, it felt like it was trying to ruin a perfectly good novel. All The Bright Places, on the other hand, had this tragic ending that was cunning and well-thought out, it didn’t feel abrupt and it didn’t really feel like it was placed in the book for the sake of having a sad ending.

Sometimes it’s all about the balance my favourite kinds of endings are the ones where they can both be sad yet hopeful and happy at the same time. Complex endings are my favourite because you get the best of both worlds. Both the Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments provide perfect examples of these kinds of ending because they both end on a sad note yet they both end happily. These are my favourite kinds of endings.

i would love to hear from you guys! what do you prefer: a happy ending, a tragic ending or an ending that gives you the best of both worlds?

Sorry, for not posting much this week! I’ve had quite a few exams which I have conquered and slayed (If I can say so myself)! Don’t worry the holidays are approaching (Thank god!) and I’ll have lots more blog posts up soon!

#bookhacks: How To Fit In More Reading, This Year!

Hiya!

I’m so excited because this is my first proper post on the new blog! 🙂 I’m going to be doing a lot more memes, which I hope you guys enjoy or even try out on your own blogs! This post will be part of a more spontaneous meme called #bookhacks, where I’ll give little tips on books: where to find good bargains,  how to fit more time to read or how to get out of a book slump! I would love to hear what tips you guys have to squeeze in some reading, just mention me in your memes posts as well!

Now before the stress, homework or workload swallows us whole this year! Here’s a small guide on how to squeeze in some reading before we keep on falling into those reading slumps again! I know last year, my reading habit was a constant cycle of three weeks of intense reading and then a four week period of a reading slump. I can not tell you how much I hated it and one of the main reasons this happened was because I was not planning my time right and I had too many distractions! Has anybody else felt this way?

Anyway, here are some tips I’ve learnt throughout the years on how to squeeze in some reading time onto any tightly packed schedule.

  1. Make Reading A Habit!
I’m going to sound like a teacher now, but seriously if you read every day, during a certain part of a day, it’s going to make it so much easier for you to find time to read. I only just started using this tip because I used to brush it off whenever an English teacher would lecture us about how you have to try and make it a habit of reading for an hour a day. Every morning I try to read one hundred pages and then I try to read one hundred pages at night. You’ll be amazed at how many more books you’ll zoom pass, throughout the week!
  2. Squeeze In Anytime To Read!
Whether it’s on the train; whilst you are waiting for your Starbucks order or in the shower. Maybe, even while you’re walking to school or work. Once you have gotten past the first few chapters of your book, try to find any five to ten minute period to cut out everything and just read. Even if you don’t feel like it, if you slowly push yourself you might notice that reading was something that you actually enjoy.
  3. Cut Out All Distractions!
Yes, I mean any type of social media you are engaged in. I know its hard but if you start to notice that there isn’t really anything that amazing about social media, then you’ll slowly learn to back away and cut it off. You’ll be amazed at how much more free time you get when slowly disengage from electronics. You’ll have so much more time to snuggle up and read a great book.
  4. Find A Good Book!
Confession: Sometimes, I read and force myself through a book just to be able to say that I have read the book when someone asks me. Please tell me I’m not the only one 🙂 Don’t do that because that just worsens the problem. If you are reading a book you are not enjoying you tend to stray from the book. Eventually, you’ll fall into a reading slump. Trust me, I’ve been there and I’ve done that! It’s not pretty. Find a great book, which you are excited to read and then reading will become much more enjoyable rather than a chore. I recommend reading a series or a contemporary, which will really suck you in. What We Saw; Never, Never and The 5th Wave are all great series which will hook you in.
  5. Sleeping Earlier!
It sounds weird I know but if you set an earlier time to go to bed, you have extra time to read before you go to sleep. It makes a huge difference. If you used to go to sleep at 11:30 pm, go to sleep at 10:30 because then you have an extra hour to  read!

What are some of your tips to squeeze in more time for reading? Tell me in the comments or do a post on your own blog and link it down below! I would love to hear your tricks!

Also, thank you so much for all your support in my new blog! I’ve gotten such great feedback and it means so much to me!!

Teaser Tuesdays (January 26th)

Hey, Guys!

February is fast approaching and I honestly can’t believe it! I’ve read so many books already this year and I hope I can complete over 100 books by the end of the year! What’s your reading goal?

I’m back with another Teaser Tuesdays, which is where I share with you, my current read and a little teaser from the novel! Don’t forget to share what you are reading down below! Don’t forget to follow my Instagram @hashtaglovebooks.alicia

I’m currently reading:

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

I just started Never, Never by Colleen Hoover and Taryn Fisher! I love the blurb- Never, Never tells the tale of two teens who were deeply in love but then one day they wake up without any recollection of who they are and as they discover more of their past they begin to question who they really were and why they were in love. I’ve been so excited to start this since I saw it buzzing around on social media. Have you read it yet?

“I jump, my heart racing. My eyes move left to right as I scope out my environment, trying not to give myself away.
What kind of bell was that?
Where am I? “
                                                                                                         – Colleen Hoover and Taryn Fisher, Never, Never

I hope you liked this Teaser Tuesday! There will be some exciting posts coming soon, which I hope you enjoy! I just got Passenger by Alexandra Bracken in the mail yesterday and I’m so excited to start it!

Back-To-School Bookish DIYs

Hey Guys!

I have a DIY post, today and since it is back-to-school soon for some of us, I thought it would be a great idea to do two easy DIYs that are book related but are super useful for school. I am doing this in collaboration with Coffee Book Love, who is also doing a “back-to-school” post which you can check out here! Her blog is awesome and so is her! I am super pumped to show you guys the two DIYs because they are quick, easy and super customisable!

Here are the two DIYs I’ll be doing:
– “Perfect Boys Only Exist In Books” Tumbler
– “Eat, Read, Sleep” Notebooks

“Eat, Read, Sleep” Notebooks
FullSizeRender

This notebook is super cute and definitely has a “bookish” vibe! They turned out super well and they actually look store bought!

Here is what you’ll need:
IMG_0675
– A notebook
– Chalk
– Sponge Paint-Brush
– Chalkboard Paint ( You can try using black acrylic but it won’t have the same effect)

How-To:
IMG_0677
Step 1) Using your sponge and the chalkboard paint, generously sponge on a coat of the chalkboard paint until you can’t see the notebook’s original color. Wait til dry.

IMG_0678
S
tep 2) Once it has finished drying, use the white chalk to write, cursively, on the words “eat, read, sleep” separating the words into a different line. Then you are done!

This notebook literally took me five minutes (excluding drying time) and it only took two steps! They would look super cute with any other quotes and it will definitely stick out from the boring mono-colored notebooks, you get for cheap. This is a really inexpensive way to make your notebooks seem expensive.

“Perfect Boys Only Exist In Books” Tumbler

Coffee tumblers have definitely become so popular but everyone usually has the plain old white or glittery one whenever they arrive to school. This tumbler spices up the boring tumbler with a cute little zing. You can make this “bookish” or not but either way it is super inexpensive and easy to make.

Groceries List:
IMG_0682
– Tumbler
– Scissors
– Paper
– Glue Stick

How-To:
IMG_0683 IMG_0685
Step 1) Unscrew the inner tumbler out and use it as a measuring tool. Measure and trim some patterned paper around the tumbler, to get the right size. Then glue the two ends of the paper together around the tumbler so that it comfortably sits on the tumbler.

IMG_0686
Step 2) Trace a circle on a separate piece of paper and then write your desired quote inside the circle and cut it out.

IMG_0687
Step 3) Glue it on to the originally measured pattern paper and place the tumbler back into the glass case. Then it is ready for you to bring back to school.

I hope you loved the two DIYs and if you ever recreated any of these I would love to see it in the comments! Don’t forget to check out the posts at Coffee Book Love’s blog!

Mini TBR List!

Hey guys!

Here are three books that are really high on my to-be-read list! I have been dying to read these books and I seriously need to get my hands on them!

  1. Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella I have been eyeing this book since it’s release date! Based on the many reviews I have read, this book sound like a really good contemporary. I haven’t read any Sophie Kinsella novels but since she has read so many her latest novel, Finding Audrey must be a really good one, writen by an experienced author!
  2. A Sarah Dessen novel
After reading Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen, I have been itching to get a Sarah Dessen novel that will hopefully be as good as Saint Anything! I have only ever heard amazing things about her books and I hope the next one I read will live up to my high expectations! I already have a stack of Sarah Dessen books I borrowed from the library and I am just about to dive right into them, with one long marathon!
  3. The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

You may not have heard of this one, because I neither had I until I did some deep searching in Good Reads! It looks amazing and there are so many good reviews! The covers look amazing and it came up as a recommendations, since I loved Angelfall, the current series I am reading! I am definitely going to try out this series and I hope it won’t disappoint!

As you can see I will be having a seriously long contemporary marathon but I am super excited! I also can’t wait to read The Immortal Rules! Are any of these books on your TBR list?

Book News!- 5/04/15

Hello Guys!

Quite a few exciting things have happened! First of all, the Shadowhunters TV Show now has an official Instagram and Twitter (@shadowhunterstv).
A snippet for Copper Gauntlet was released:

Call’s head hurt.
“I don’t want anything bad to happen to Aaron,” Call said. That was the one thing he was sure about. “I never did.”
Aaron looked miserable. “Well, we’re not going to get anywhere tonight,” he said. “It’s late and we’re all tired. Maybe if we sleep for a couple of hours, we can figure something out in the morning.”
They looked at the two beds. Each was about big enough for one adult or two kids.
“I call that one,” said Jasper. He pointed at Tamara and Call. “And I call Aaron, because you’re creepy and you’re a girl.”
“I can sleep on the floor,” Aaron offered, looking at the expression on Tamara’s face.
“That doesn’t help anyone but Jasper,” said Tamara crossly, and got onto the leftmost bed. “It’s fine, Call; we’ll just sleep on top of the covers. Don’t worry about it.”
Call thought that maybe he should offer to sleep on the floor like Aaron had, but he didn’t want to. His leg already hurt and, besides, he knew for a fact that there were sometimes rats hiding in the barn.
“Okay,” he said, climbing in gingerly beside her.
It was weird.
In the other bed, Jasper and Aaron were trying to share a single pillow. There was a muffled cry as someone was punched. Call pushed the pillow on his bed over to Tamara, and laid his head down on his crooked arm.
He closed his eyes, but sleep didn’t come. It was uncomfortable trying to keep to one side of the bed, making sure that even his toes didn’t stray over to Tamara’s side. It didn’t help that he kept seeing the words in the letters Master Joseph had written, painted on the backs of his eyelids.
“Call?”
He opened his eyes. Tamara was looking at him from a few inches away, her eyes big and dark.  ”Why are you so important?” she whispered.
He felt the warm gust of her breath on his cheek.
“Important?” he echoed. Jasper had started to snore.
“All those letters,” she said. “From Master Joseph. I thought they’d be about Aaron. He’s the Makar. But they were all about you. Call is the most important thing.”
“I mean …I guess because he’s my dad,” Call said, floundering. “So I’d be important to him.”
“It didn’t sound like that kind of important,” Tamara said softly. “Call, you know, you can tell us anything, right?”
Call wasn’t sure how to answer her. He was still trying to decide when Havoc began to howl.
